Just wanted to say "HI!". There are 9 Miniature Schnauzers in our family history! Sadly we have lost 3 now (Emma 3yrs old to a family separation, Misty the matriarch who had a long and good life of 16 years, and Nikki our loving baby just 6 years old to cancer.God needed her home with him). Still together are Sarah 11, Tasha 5, Kali 4, Paige 3, Sugar 3, and Makenzie 2. Three generations of humans are owned by these pups!!!
We truly love all our "nauzers".

May God bless you in your efforts to make the world a better Schnauzer place!!

:P What a great website for Schnauzer lovers! We are owned by Isabel, an 18 month old Mini and a 4 1/2 year old Westie boy Alfred.
This site is a mine of information and I will definately be back to swot up on my grooming techniques.
I´m so glad you support the ban on ear, dew claw and tail docking. Isabel had her dew claws done and it appears an unsuccessful attempt at tail docking which has left her with a crooked tail.never mind, she´s still adorable!
I was looking for colour comparisons as we were told Isabel was a Pepper and Salt but she looks more Black and Silver to us. Any tips on how to tell please Diane and Barry?

I agree totally with your ethics in regard to ear and tail docking. After seeing the pictures of your dogs with intact tails, I wish mine hadn't been docked.

Thank you for the valuable information. I have a new black (with white on her chest) mini who is now 11 weeks old. I found your site while searching for grooming suggestions/guidelines. but was pleased to find so much else that was helpful. We are enjoying our playful, affectionate little one. We also have a Weimeraner and a Lab/Chow in our home, but, she, Inca, is our first small dog, and we love her already. Thanks again.

Great tips for grooming and I was particularly interested in the "water only" baths! Wow, maybe that might explain some of Gertrude's (my bitch) skin problems. Also liked the pictures of nail clipping

Beautiful Schnauzies! I have three and my daughter has three. They are the smartest little ladies in the world and so very loveable. I would like to correspond with someone about an eye problem one of my pups has - would love to hear from our neighbors in Canada.

Thank you so much for your decision to not dock the puppies tails. I live in Ottawa, Ontario and because I can not find a breeder here that will not do it, I might just be planning a road trip your way! Thanks again.I will be in touch.

:) We are the proud owners of our first miniature schnauzer puppy-Suki "Ruffles" Trimble. She has been a delightful companion who needs to be groomed. We don't have the money to have her done profesionally- so we are trying to do it ourselves. Your website is a God send. Thank you so much!!! :) :) :)

We are interested in bringing into our family, two mini shnauzers, so I am doing as much research on them as possible. We have had the discussion regarding the ears and tails, and I have always been uncomfortable with that aspect, so I am impressed by your decision to not dock or clip.

We live in Manitoba and are trying to find a breeder closer to home, where we can visit and see the environment and puppies. Do you know of any?

Hi

I found your site searching for Minis with their ears and tails un-clipped. You guys seem wonderful.

My wife and I are starting to think of a little brother or sister for my best friend, Wolfgang, a mini schau'.

I think you are exactly right in leaving the ears and tails as nature intended. It's such an important message to send to other breeders. Thanks a million!

The pic's of your puppies brought a tear to my eye thinking of my old guy when he was young.

Thanks, Richard

I find your instructions on grooming the mini schnauzer very educational and informative. Thanks! Its so exciting to see a schnauzer with beautiful furnishings (and TAILs :) )with a little bit of work and a little quality time spent they are so simple and fun to keep up! I work at a doggie day care and so many of our fur babies are shaved down(eyebrows and all  ) For two years now i have been owned by a beautiful, vibrant personalitied mini girl that i keep in a show cut though not stripped i think she looks the part wink I currently hold an active cosmetology liscense but my head is turning in the direction of my favortite past time and second career of working with fuzzier clients-dogs! Thank you for the information I'm always looking for tips-and I must add that your schnauzer babies are darling!

I've been "stying" my miniature schnauzer for a while and really needed some good tips to make him look as good as he can (he's quite gorgeous) ha ha. Your page, tips and advice are perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Mr. Bean will be quite stunning after I perfect your tips! Thank you.

What a great website! Someone dumped a pup on my road a month ago and I have so fallen in love with her. I was searching puppy pictures and it's clear she has lots of mini schnauzer. We've had a wonderful time this evening looking at all your pictures and reading all the info. I'm resolvednow to work more with Cadi on grooming. And I'm so glad no one had docked her tail or fixed her ears!

Thank you so much for your website. I work full-time and am working on an MBA full-time; thus I don't have time at home right now to have a puppy and give him the attention he deserves. But, my graduation present to myself next year is a mini-Schnauzer. Thank you so much for your website - it makes my heart smile.

Jan Lock
hello - I have just bought home my first mini schnauzer and looked up your site for grooming tips - thankyou its of great help

Webmaster Comments:
Hello Jan,

Thanks for the compliments about the grooming, we did work hard on all our info :-) As for your puppy inquiry looking for a male puppy to bred to the female you just got, my advice first and foremost is to let your bitch grow up and see if she is fit to breed or not, she must have proper breed type and a solid genetically healthy pedigree, decent conformation (structure and movement) and a superb temperament, and if you are a novice with no knowledge or experience with this breed as it appears, then you need to get out in the world and prove her worth by doing stuff with her, show, obedience, agility or something. Then IF she is worthy, then once she is mature you can see what flaws she has that need to be improved upon (no dog is perfect) , get all her health clearances done, and search for a male that conformationally and pedigree wise suits your bitch. That will give you the two years she is growing up to learn about and study the breed and breed standard, what makes a dog fit to breed or not, buy and borrow as many books as possible to learn all you can about structure, movement, breed type, breeding and whelping and genetics. Anyone who is unwilling to do all of the above before you even consider breeding, has no right to take any life into their hands and make decisions regardings the future of that life and future lives of living breathing creatures.

I live in the US (New Jersey) and diligently followed the growth of a litter of your puppies last year because it matched pretty closely the age of the puppy I was waiting to receive. I found your site to be helpful in terms of knowledge - and joyful to watch "my" puppy grow. I chose a black and silver male to "follow" as that was what my "Milo" is. The breeder that I worked with in southern New Jersey had very high standards of ethics in terms of her breeding, she just did not have a web site! Congratulations to you on the stand that you have taken with respect to ears and tails. I applaud your position and sincerely hope that more breeders follow your lead. Good luck to you and your family of beautiful schnauzers - and Tequila, too,of course!

Your Dog(s) and the pups are beautiful! We rise minis as well and I always wonder about leaving the tail on this maybe a consideration in our future. I would be interested in a B/S female in the very near future. All of our Dogs and their pups are whelped in our house and to our dogs sleep eat in our home and our very well house train.

Your message was just what I was looking for. We too have decided not to dock the tail or clip the ears of our precious Princess Bernadette Zoie. After reading your article and seeing the beaugtiful pup was all we needed to know that we had decided correctly. Thank you!

I am a first time visitor to your site and I want to let you know your puppies are beautiful. I am also very glad that you are not docking ears and tails. I have two mini schnauzer myself with uncropped ears also I have a giant schnauzer who we rescued a few years back. When we are walking with our "kids" we are constantly told we have a wonderful family.

Beautiful dogs/puppies. We have a male salt and pepper named "Out of Ashes" (Ash or Ashes for short) in memory of our two deceased schnauzers Toby & Lacey. Ashes is 10 months old and a going concern being both lovable and friendly to everyone he meets. We are a schnauzer family. My sister has one and also our son and nephew. My brother is a breeder in Bracebridge Ontario and has produced beautiful friendly and well proportioned dogs. Love checking out websites to gain additional information on breeding practices, grooming tips and problems that are encountered over the years. Nice to see that tail cropping is hopefully on its way out. Keep up the good work! Wonderful website!

Sincerely, Jim & Sandra Hetherington

I absolutely love schnauzer dogs! My family had a schnauzerpoo for 17 yrs before she passed and I've missed her ever since! I'm looking to get a dog within the next year or so and was doing some research on what type of dog I want and right now, I'm torn between a schnauzer, a terrier, a cocker spaniel or a labrodor as a large dog. I came to this site see if a schnauzer is compatible w/ my lifestyle as I am out of the home most of the day.

I've been thinking about getting a doggie and have been looking up and reading about different breeds. The shanauzer is one of the ones I think I'd like although there are so many out there I'd probably like. It's hard to choose. I definitely like that their tail and ears are not cropped. How awful for those babies to have to go through that. Cruelty to animals is a definite NO, NO in my life. congratulations on your wisdom in not doing this. God bless you!

Hi there
You have a fantastic website I find quite comforting to look at and I celebrate your 2007 goal of not cropping tails.
We put our sweet Sparky (Mister Sparky of Opalmis, black and silver) to sleep June 22 after a 2 month illness; he was born in 1993.
I wonder how long most schnauzers live.
We miss him dreadfully.
Thanks for your picture filled site.
All the best

I have a pure black mini and I absolutely love him. His name is Casey and he is 2 1/2. I always wondered what their tails looked like. I think that they look great. It suits them. Casey's tail was done but not his ears. If I were to get another I would look for one that has the tail left natural. Good for you for taking that stand.
